10 Worst Rated New Cars to Own and Insure

Posted on 07:40 by Unknown
It's sad this applies to almost all advertisements now!

Anyone who's ever seen a big mac on the McDonald's advertisements knows that is not what you get when you order the sandwich at the restaurant. Nearly all advertisements employ this tactic, including the automotive industry. With the increased production and reduced quality of vehicles today, you wouldn't know the shortcomings of most vehicles by their commercials. These ads all post how well the vehicle does in their own “inspections” and “tests”, but they are rarely compared to other vehicles. These companies also advertise mostly on the volume of sales, instead of the quality of the autos.

Below is a list of the 10 vehicles that are built the worst, and their quality is not reflected by the price you have to pay on several of these big-name brands. I implore you to skim over this list before you start auto shopping, as you may be paying more on your car insurance because you couldn't avoid an accident or your vehicle totaled itself out in your skirmish with the ditch during a rainstorm.

10. Toyota FJ Cruiser
Hope the blind spots don't put a
nasty spot on your car insurance!
This vehicle starts the list because of its rankings from Consumer Reports road tests, which conclude it has some of the worst blind spots, along with bad marks on riding, fuel economy, vehicle handling, and accessibility.

9.Smart ForTwo
While this vehicle was rated the best at parking it basically anywhere, and they loved how tight the steering is, it has several glaring weaknesses that put it on this list. Namely the awful acceleration, poor transmission, bad ride and horrible handling. It may seem like a great thing that it has amazing fuel economy, but that is moderately offset by it requiring premium fuel. Not very smart for a smart car if you ask me.

8.Jeep Wrangler Unlimited
Great off road, bad on road
This vehicle is designed for off road, and it does that job very well. The drawback to not living in an area that requires constant off road travel will be a rough ride and bad handling on the pavement. This vehicle's worst statistic is it's comfort and convenience for that very reason, and its a small price to pay if you need a sturdy box that can handle the toughest road conditions. As long as it isn't a paved road.

7.Jeep Liberty
You got big shoes to fill, Liberty...
For a vehicle that was supposed to be the successor to the Jeep Cherokee, this vehicle isn't up to snuff. This vehicle ranked at the bottom of its class in fuel economy, but was the number one in horsepower. People with big feet beware, one of the main complaints was that the foot wells were too narrow. Among other peeves on the car was it's braking, handling, and uncomfortable front seat.

6.Jeep Compass
Not the worst, but not good
As with most vehicles in the “bad, but not horrible” range of consumer reviews, this vehicle has most of the same problems that its peers possess: bad engine noise, braking, handling, rear visibility, and driving position. Strangely it also has lackluster front seat comfort, which is strange considering of all the seats that should have comfort, you'd think that the front seat would be the most comfortable...Maybe they just don't want you to fall asleep at the wheel, or get a slipped disc, there's really no telling with car companies now.

5.Dodge Ram 2500 Diesel
This is the big jock of the car world
It's getting to be a hard life for the heavy-duty pick up trucks, which have a bad rap for being the most problematic vehicles on the road today. This truck is unfortunately a member of that club, despite having great towing and payload abilities. This is probably attributed because of the vehicle's low scores in ride, handling, transmission, reliability, and cost. One of the more unique complaints I heard of this vehicle is its height, and I can only imagine some smaller framed person having to leap into this vehicle to step in to it effectively.

4.Dodge Avenger
Poor Avenger, always beat by big bro
This more affordable option to getting a Charger may not be worth the savings. There are several issues with this mid-size sedan, including its engine noise, acceleration, braking, transmission, fuel economy, and rear visibility. This car has very poor fuel economy, ranking lowest in its class, but it is top 9 in horsepower. With great power, comes great deficiencies in most all other facets of your abilities seems to be the mantra of this second-banana to the other muscle cars that have come out this year.

3.GMC Yukon
Are you good if you're the 3rd worst?
This vehicle has almost the same specs as the Cadillac Escalade, so it is very similar in pros and cons. However, it is improved upon the Cadillac model by having superior fuel economy, while maintaining 9 passenger seating and up to 9,600 pounds of towing power. This vehicle's position being in the top 3 of the worst built new cars of 2012 is not good, but it's not the worst of the new range of vehicles that hit dealerships around the nation.

2.Chevrolet Colorado
Nothing says "heavy duty"
like a 5-cylinder...
Despite being one of the most affordable entry level trucks on the market, the Colorado suffers from a myriad of shortcomings. Even the extended cab is more compact than its competition. Even though this is a supposed, “heavy duty” truck, the smaller 3.7-liter 5 cylinder engine is nowhere near as powerful as a V6. There are a number of nuisances as well that customers have complained about, namely the acceleration(from the smaller engine) braking and accident avoidance, which isn't a good recipe for your car insurance. There's also an issue with the quality of the ride and unsettling engine noise that makes you want to reconsider owning one of these vehicles.

1.Cadillac Escalade
Famous people may like it,
but they're rich!
While this vehicle may be one of the most well-known and popular SUV amongst the rap moguls and movie stars, word of mouth can only go so far. While it may have awesome horsepower and size, this beast of a vehicle has some of the worst braking and the second-to-last in fuel economy. It also has poor handling and tanked its crash avoidance tests. This pricey SUV makes a statement, but there are more practical options if you don't need the size and power this vehicle provides.

All of these vehicles may sound or look good from their advertisements and "personal testing" they have done. With most things now we are seeing that peer reviews and comparisons are becoming a more popular and less biased way to determine true vehicle value. Always do your research before you go out and buy that new vehicle because someone famous drives it or it has sold so many. It may be selling so many because it doesn't last very long. No matter how safe a vehicle may appear to be, make sure you keep auto insurance as it is required now in most states, and can save you a ton of money on repairs and liabilities.

13 Ways to Save on Your Boat Insurance

Posted on 11:54 by Unknown
Popular boating quotes from http://yachtpals.com/quotes:

Ships are the nearest things to dreams that hands have ever made.
- Robert N. Rose

A lot of people ask me if I were shipwrecked, and could only have one book, what would it be? I always say 'How to Build a Boat'
- Stephen Wright

Introduction
People(read: Men) love boats. We take care of our boats and treasure them almost as much as a member of the family. Most that have boats have boat insurance, but how much are you really paying for that insurance? If you said to yourself while reading this, "Too much..." then this article may just be worth a read for you!We hope that this "baker's dozen" of boating insurance helps you save some money.

See what your state requires:
Different states require different requirements for proper boat insurance. Most states require a minimum of personal liability insurance. Property damage is also important if your boat is ported or kept anywhere else other than your home. Don't forget that non-motorized personal watercraft do not require vehicle insurance.

Put all watercraft on the same policy:
In addition, see if your automobile insurer can insure your boat(s) as well. Combining policies is a great way to save money and reduce your interest rates.

Switch to liability:
Do this only if you're comfortable with having your insurance only pay for the damage you do to OTHERS, not your own boat.

Know the limits of your liability insurance:
Check with your liability provider to make sure that all events that can happen are covered. Not all policies are created equal.

Join a group or organization:
Most insurers want their drivers to be educated on proper boating procedures. So much so that the majority will offer a discount if you take a reputable course on boating. One good example is the US Power Squadrons course. Even if your insurance provider doesn't give you a discount, the knowledge you receive can definitely save you money!

Experience matters:
Source
Make sure you have a more mature and more experienced boat operator on your boat insurance. This will avoid the added costs of having young and/or inexperienced people on your policy.

Choose the right deductible:
Make sure that the deductible you agree to pay for won't be more than you can afford in the case of an accident. You also shouldn't have your deductible so low that you can't afford the premiums.

Keep the boat safe while on shore:
Storing your boat in a secure area is vital. If you keep your boat stored in an insured property, you may be able to have the damages covered from your property insurance. Proper investigation of the terms of your property insurance will determine if this is a possible option to save you some money.

Ask for discounts:
Here are some examples of discounts offered by many insurers:
  1. Responsible Driver
  2. Original Owner
  3. Paid in full
  4. Multi-policy
  5. Safety Course
Is cancelling my insurance during off-season a good option?:
It's never a good idea to cancel your boat insurance. Your boat insurance can be damaged during the off-season, and if you're not covered, you pay the damages. This practice will also prevent you from saving through loyalty discounts such as vanishing deductible. A safer way to save during the off-season is to remove any of the perks that involve actually using the boat, like towing emergency or uninsured boaters insurance. If you do this, make sure you reinstate your previous coverages before you get back on the water!

Consider "port risk":
This policy can provide coverage associated with storing your boat, but not any of the navigation coverages. It is a reasonable option in conjunction to the question above.

Know the market:
In the boating market your boat is constantly losing value. This equals a reduced premium! Regularly check with your insurer to see if you qualify for a lower rate.

Join a club:
If you can find a boating safety course in your area, most insurers will provide a discount similar to taking a safe car driving class.

Why Your Business Needs EPL Insurance

Posted on 08:56 by Unknown

What is it?
Employee Practices Liability Insurance is probably something you don't hear much about. I bet you do hear about employees suing their employers though, and that's what this insurance policy protects you from.

The benefits of this program allow your insurance company to pay you back the money you spend dealing with the lawsuit or claim against your business and yourself. The great thing about this is you are covered regardless of if you win or lose.

However, EPLI policies usually do not cover criminal fines, penalties or damages, and also will not cover claims made that are covered by other insurance policies. The best route to take is to talk with your insurer to find out how you can be completely covered, where other insurance policies will take over in the event something happens that your EPLI will not cover.

So what does it cover?
Glad you asked(I know, it's like I'm psychic or something) EPL insurance protects you from pretty much all the nasties an employee can wish upon you and your business, including:
If you have an employee like this, you NEED EPL Ins.
Source
  • Wrongful termination
  • Discrimination, which includes, but is not limited to(deep breath):
Race, color, creed, national origin, gender, pregnancy, sexual orientation, marital status, religion, age, and disabilities.
  • Sexual Harassment, which includes claims against both supervisors and employees.
  • Other claims relating to employment can be covered as well, but you might have to pay more for these:
Defamation of character, mental anguish, assault, privacy invasion, negligent supervision, emotional distress, and others that employees will usually claim in their lawsuit
Discrimination can hurt more than your employees' relationships!
Source

Costs

Not all policies are created equal, and the size of your company and the type of business you run can affect the costs of your EPLI coverage. Some other factors include the business location, how long the business has been running, and if there were any other claims or lawsuits filed before the insurance was purchased.

Prevention

The number one thing that EPL insurance agents say that will help prevent employee lawsuits is to keep up to date with all federal and state laws in its employee manual. A record of the complaints from employees and how they were resolved or acted upon is also a necessity.

Does your company need it?

Any company that could be held liable for any of these violations should consider EPL insurance. The insurance agent can customize your policy to suit your company's needs. The premiums are far more affordable than carrying the costs of a lawsuit, or multiple lawsuits simultaneously, while trying to cover business expenses as well. Please make sure you have EPL Insurance, and if you don't call  (479)-968-2633  today! Tberry's Insurance is a full-line Arkansas Insurance Provider. We cover home, auto and business insurances. 15 Things Homeowner's Insurance Might Not Save You From!

Posted on 08:53 by Unknown

Lots of things can happen to your home. You never can prepare for everything, and your homeowner's insurance may not cover all that can happen to your humble abode. Is mold secretly destroying your home? If a squirrel is in your attic and tears up your grandmother's antique oak coffee table, will you be covered? Most people think that your homeowner's insurance covers anything that can happen to your home, but you would be thinking wrong...

In the event that any of these things happen(or may be happening now) your insurance policy may not cover your damages. When you finish reading this, if anything sounds like even a remote possibility of coming true, please have a talk with your insurance provider about getting additional coverage. You can prevent, but it's much harder to take care of when the damage is already done.

  1. Your Groceries From The Frizty Fridge!
There goes the groceries!
You just got back from the grocery store of your choice(hopefully not Wal-Mart, that place is insanity), and you just bought plenty of meat, veggies, fruits, drinks and snacks and crammed your fridge full. Next thing you know your house loses power for whatever reason and your fridge becomes warm for an undisclosed amount of time. You may think that you are covered, but actually you have to purchase an additional “refrigerated or perishable property” coverage or the $300+ you spent on your groceries will be gone forever just like your rotten eggs and spoiled milk...Don't cry though, most homeowner's insurance policies will accommodate you if you want this extra coverage.
  1. Pet Damages
I swear the cat did it...
Getting a new puppy or kitty can be a great and rewarding experience. Even saving an animal from a shelter is a great service to those pets as they would be euthanized if you didn't come by and save them. Pat yourself on the back, I'll give you some time...BUT, those animals don't always come with the best manners, and may not know the difference between the chew toy you bought, and your expensive recliner. There is nothing you can do about this, and there is no coverage you can get that will cover pet damages.
It's always best when you have a new pet to separate them from the rest of the house with doorway gates until you can assess if they will tear up the rest of your house or if they're well-adjusted enough to explore your casa completely uninhibited. They are only material things when all is said and done, and teething is tough on anyone, even animals. You teethed once when you were a baby, and God only knows what you gnawed on to relieve the pain!
  1. Dog Attacks
Does she look dangerous?
I wish this weren't a factor, but with all the bad owners that mistreat their animals, sometimes a pet is dangerous. Most of these types of owners choose certain breeds, and those breeds(Rottweilers, Dobermans, and Pitt Bulls to name a few) have been misrepresented as “high-risk” or “aggressive” dogs because of the terrible treatment they are put through. Of all those breeds I have seen some of the sweetest animals to children and strangers alike. Unfortunately, it is the canines themselves that suffer the worst, as the punishment for biting a human is usually to euthanize them. Nearly all insurers will not protect you from the charges of damages to property or persons with your homeowner's insurance for these “high-risk” breeds, even if you have coverage that supports dog-related injuries.
  1. Rodent Damages
Why isn't there insurance for these guys?
As I mentioned above, you may think of rodents as mice and rats, but squirrels are also thrown into that lot. This means if Mr. Nutty decides to break into your attic and destroy your property, you won't be covered. Most insurance companies do not allow you to claim damage by rodents, but you're safe if a bird, opossum or bats invade your sanctum, even though I would classify them all as pests...

  1. Keeping Up With Building Codes
Making sure your house is taken care of and up to date on municipal codes is 90 percent your responsibility with great insurance coverages. That means that only 10 percent of that cost is in place to help you after a natural disaster to get it back up to snuff. In other words, if it costs $5,000 to get code-compliant, your insurance will only cover $500 of the bill. I don't know about you guys, but I don't just have 4,500 dollars to throw around because the city decided to tell me I need a bigger attic.
  1. Electronic Destruction From a Power Surge
Many people work from home now, and your computer is your gateway to your income. If you have a faulty or outdated surge protector, and you get a power surge, your computer may be ca putz. There is a silver lining though, because if the surge was caused by a lightning storm, then your insurance will cover the damage providing lightning damage is on your policy.
  1. Damage From a Sewage or Water Supply Backup
Simply put if your house is flooded because of the water supply backing up or the sewage spewing back up and you don't have backup insurance, you're not covered. Make sure you check with your insurer what they will cover in the event of such a catastrophe. If they don't provide it inherently then you may be able to modify your policy for a n increased rate. The rate will depend on your insurer.
  1. Erosion Damage
A good rule of thumb is anything gradual that happens over a long period of time isn't covered. It's only “sudden” and “completely out of your control” events that are covered, as most insurance agents will tell you. Bummer, huh?
  1. Damage From Mold
Yummy...
Mold is a nasty thing, but it does take time to multiply and spread throughout your home. Starting to see a pattern here? Yep, you guessed it, the gradual damage of mold is not included in your insurance policy(just like so many batteries required by your child's toys are not included in the package, even though they always want to play with it right out of the box...) Please make sure you keep mold under control, not only for your home's sake, but black mold is fatal if the spores are ingested over a period of time.

  1. General Neglect of Property
Just because you have homeowner's insurance doesn't mean you can let your house just fall apart and expect them to foot the bill. So that means it's your job to perform scheduled maintenance on your home to prevent water damage, keep pests out from invading your residence and wreaking havoc, and keep your foundation in check. Make sure that if your foundation is cracked and your house starts to sink, it isn't because some gophers or moles were allowed to burrow around your yard for years. They are classified as “rodents” you know?
  1. Malicious or Intentional Damages by a Resident
Whenever your adolescent son decides to cherry bomb the toilet and flood your house, or your youngest daughter tries cooking her own macaroni and cheese and sets the kitchen on fire, home insurance will not foot the bill. They will cite negligence on your part for your destructive children.
  1. Theft of Expensive Items
Standard policies usually won't cover more than $1,000 worth of damage or loss in the event of a burglary. That would be great if thieves knew to stop at $1,000 to make sure you can claim all of it, but if you have expensive jewelry, antiques or top-of-the-line electronics, they're going to indulge themselves. Talk with your insurer to get additional coverage for these so-called “luxury” items that society swears you need to not be seen as a hermit or social outcast.
  1. Trampoline Injuries or Damages
True Story
The entire idea of a trampoline without a net wall or padding on the springs is a deathtrap. Did you know that some insurance companies won't even consider coverage for you if you have a trampoline? I didn't either, and the statistics for these torture devices are staggering: trampolines alone caused over 92 THOUSAND injuries. Not just minor scrapes and bruises either, these are injuries worthy of and emergency room visit!

  1. Earthquake Damages
The majority of homeowner's insurance policies do not cover earthquake damages or their subsequent aftershocks. If you are one of the lucky few that have this specialized insurance, you'll find that because of the extent of damage to your home earthquakes will apply to your home, your deductible is almost always a percentage of your entire home's structural replacement value! Maybe that mansion on the San Andres Fault wasn't such a good idea after all...
  1. Sacrifices of War
Huh, good God ya'll. What is it good for? Absolutely nothing! Say it again ya'll! Sorry, I couldn't contain myself. If your home is collateral damage in any kind of war battle or assault, your will not be covered by your insurance. After the Trade Center disaster, Congress passed the Terrorism Risk Insurance Act of 2002. So unless specifically stated in your insurance policy that you are not covered in the event of a terrorist attack, your home should be insured from their wrath.

There are so many things that can go wrong with your home. If you suspect any of these things may be going on, please make sure your homeowner's insurance policy has you covered, or will at least help with some of the repairs. Please make sure you have Homeowner's Insurance, and if you don't call (479)-968-2633 today! Tberry's Insurance is a full-line Arkansas Insurance Provider. Garage Liability Insurance and Why You Need It!

Posted on 10:57 by Unknown

What is it?

Garage Liability Insurance covers any vehicles in your care. These vehicles can be franchised or non-franchised, and can be an automobile, truck, motorcycle, recreational vehicle, 18-wheeler and trailer. However, it does not cover customers' cars left in your business's care. Garage Liability Insurance covers claims of damage to property and personal injury of any person as long as it happens during business operations. There are two different insuring agreements with Garage Liability Insurance: Who is insured and limit of insurance.

In the case of insuring customers' vehicles, you need Garage Keepers' Insurance. They are usually sold together so you are fully protected from any kind of accident or situation. Even though they are usually sold together though, you still have to sign separate contracts.

Who needs it?

  • Gas Stations
  • Used Car Dealers
  • Auto Repair and Body Shops
  • Car Washes
  • Parking and Valet Lots and Garages
  • Mobile Auto Repair or Detailing Shops
  • Tire Sales Dealers
  • Used Motorcycle, Large Truck, and RV Sales and Service
  • Pretty much any business where you keep a lot of vehicles in a small area

What determines my rates?

Generally your rates are determined by several factors, including(but not limited to):
  • Type of Business or Operation
  • Number of Employees and/or Employee Payroll Size
  • Territory Area
  • Acceptable Motor Vehicle Reports on All Drivers
  • Safety of vehicles
  • Condition of Holding Space
  • Security Systems of Premises
  • Requested Limits of Coverage

5 Ways to Lower Your Motorhome Insurance

Posted on 11:15 by Unknown
This little beauty I found from http://goodoldrvs.ning.com/photo/myrtle-the-motorhome?xg_source=activity

An RV is your home away from home. Most mobile homes are pretty expensive, so you should definitely protect your investment from top to bottom. Your RV policy should not only protect your vehicle but your valuables and traveling companions as well. You can protect your mobile home and it's valuable cargo with RV insurance.

Just because the RV is expensive, doesn't mean the insurance policy has to be! Here are 5 ways you can keep your Motorhome insurance premium low or even lower your payments, and we hope you can take advantage of them.

  1. Keeping Your RV Safe
Your RV is a prime target for vandals and thieves because people usually store items and accessories that are valuable. Things such as electronics and devices can be targeted, and because of this your insurance quotes can get very pricey.
This is why protecting your motor home is essential. Make sure you have effective security devices like an alarm system, a steering lock, and an immobilizing system.
Your location can affect your premiums as well. Any place that is higher in crime will have higher premiums, and lower-risk areas of course get lower premiums. If you live in one of those high-risk areas consider storing your RV in a more rural area. It may lower your premium significantly.
  2. Stay on Top of Your Payments
Your RV insurance can be lowered just by how you pay for it. Like other insurance policies you can raise your deductible to lower your premium payments. If you pay the entire year of insurance in one lump sum, you may reduce your costs as well, and avoid some costly interest. Ask your provider if paying in this method will net a rebate or other forms of compensation for paying up front.
  3. Practice Safe Driving
In order to keep yourself and others safe on the road, you have to be comfortable with your motor home. You have to consider that your vehicle is large, so keep track of your blind spots and clearances to avoid property damage or a collision. Don't be afraid to step out of your vehicle and observe how much space you have. Your side mirrors are valuable assets to your road awareness, and they should be properly aligned to see your bottom tire and at least 25 feet behind your vehicle.
Keep up with your vehicle's maintenance at every gasoline stop. Check tire pressure, your battery life, and anything you may be towing. Make sure everything is fastened securely and in good working order.
When on the open road, try not to get congested in traffic. Like a semi-truck you take up a large portion of the road, and any vehicles moving around you can make you nervous. Keep proper following distance and respect other drivers' positions on the road.
  4. Join a Club
Did you know you may be provided a discount if you're a member of an RV club? You have to speak with the company as the discount rates can vary greatly. Call your Motorhome Insurance provider to see if or how much you can save.
You can also sign up for a driver safety course to get discounts with some RV insurances. Like with the club membership, you have to talk to your insurance provider to see if your education course will even give you a discount.
  5. Go for a Multiple-Policy Discount
Most companies are happy with you choosing them to insure you. They get even happier if you decide to insure your home or other vehicles with them. So much more happy they will often give you a Multi-policy discount. As with the other methods to lowering your insurance premiums you need to check with your insurer before combining or getting a multi-policy insurance plan.

We hope that these tips help you get a cheaper policy, while also keeping you safe on the open road. If you don't yet have motorhome insurance and are in the Arkansasarea, contact Tberry's Insurance and make sure your family and home will be safe and secure on your road trips. How to Have a Safe Grilling Season

Posted on 07:44 by Unknown
Source: http://www.oklahomafarmreport.com/wire/news/2012/05/00829_SafeGrillingB05232012_113854.php

The weather's getting warmer. Summer officially starts on Wednesday, June 20th. This means that more people are spending time outside, and families everywhere are firing up their grills. Whether you use gas, or charcoal, the grill can be a deadly device if not properly taken care of or maintained.

Every year gas grills start over 500 fires and injure many people. The carbon monoxide emitted by charcoal grills cause 400 injuries and 20 deaths, recorded by the Insurance Information Institute. These numbers are unfortunately on the rise, and without proper safety precautions that trend will continue to increase.

Most Arkansas home insurances and Arkansas Renter's Insurance will help you with fire damage. You want your insurance to be a safety net, not a resource you have to call upon to raise your premiums. To prevent tragic events and destroyed property, follow these simple(yet often overlooked) tips for grilling out with the family:

  • Make sure a fire extinguisher is available in case of an uncontrollable fire. In the event of a grease-fire, baking soda will snuff the flames better than anything else.
  • Be familiar with your grill. Find the owner's manual, study it(yawn) and make sure you are aware of any risks your grill may hold, and for proper maintenance procedures.
  • Clean the grill thoroughly, including external and internal parts. Any dirt or rust buildup should be cleaned off with a scouring pad or abrasive grill-cleaning device. Cleaning the grill will also make your food taste better, and avoid unsightly and unsanitary grease buildup.
  • Inspect the charcoal receptacle, fuel lines, burners and any electronic components and make sure they are still working efficiently. Inspect your propane bottle for damage and proper filling procedure to avoid an explosion or leak.
  • Be aware of your grilling station. Make sure it is outside to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning. Also sweep away any brush or other flammable materials to avoid having more fires than you can control!
  • Keep your grill on a balanced, even surface to avoid tipping. A grill pad, made of durable plastic or cement, can protect your deck or other surfaces from hot grease and other grill residues.
  • Wear a durable apron, tie back any long hair, keep sleeves rolled up or out of the way, and don't wear really baggy pants. These are all fire hazards and can be easily avoided
  • When entertaining guests at a party make sure the grill is supervised at all times, especially when the cooking is done. A grill holds heat for a long period of time, and can still burn and set fire if tipped over or touched.
  • Keep all children away from the grill. Teach at an early age not to touch the grill, and make sure they understand that only adults should operate the grill. Grill contact is one of the most common ways children under 5 are burned.

We hope you follow these rules for a safe and happy grilling season. If you don't yet have home insurance and are in the Arkansasarea, contact Tberry's Insurance and make sure your family and home will be safe and secure for Summer. 5 Easy Ways to Save Money Insuring Your Home

Posted on 09:46 by Unknown
Everyone asks me what are some tips to save money insuring what most everyone has: a home. These 5 tips are very general, but you never know which one you may not have taken advantage of yet. We at Tberry's Insurance hope you can save some money on your home insurance, and we will give you a great quote for the Arkansas area!
Everyone needs home insurance, but you don't need to pay too much!

1.Combining your Insurance Policies
Most insurance companies sell multiple insurance categories simultaneously, and in most cases they will give you a discount for insuring multiple items. Generally you can save as much as 10 to 15 percent off your premium when you get two or more policies from the same insurer.
Always be sure, however, that your final combined price is not higher than getting two different policies with different companies. It always pays to shop around!

2.Keep up that Credit Score
Having a high credit score should already be on your list of important achievements in life. Another added benefit to having a high credit score is it may cut your insurance costs. More and more insurance companies are using your credit score to price your home insurance policies. In cases where your credit score will increase your insurance rates, you can always see and verify what they used to find your credit rating.
You should always be aware of your credit score, and there are many things you can and should already be doing to keep your score high. First, pay your bills on time! Next, keep your credit cards paid down so you're not accumulating high amounts of interest. These may seem like two obvious points, but they are critical in maintaining and raising your credit score.

3.Install Security Systems
Everything you install to protect your home can be something that may lower your policy. Some of the more obvious ones are smoke detectors, alarm systems, and multiple locking systems on your doors. Simply list these types of improvements when talking about a policy and see what the company will reduce from your policy. The benefits of these improvements are two-fold: Increased security and decreased payments!

4.Improve your Home's Resistance To Disaster
If your home is near a known disaster area (Tornado Alley, Sand Andreas Fault, etc...) Talk to your insurance agent on what ways you can improve your home's resistance to the elements. Upgrading an aged home's defenses with reinforcement for earthquakes or adding storm shutters to your windows for strong winds are all ways to save on your premiums.
Don't forget about your internal systems as well. You should consider your plumbing, electrical and gas systems and their condition to prevent water or fire damage to your home.

5. Raise your Deductible
This is one of the easiest ways to lower your payments, as the higher your deductible is, the lower your payments will be. People in more disaster-prone areas may not want to do this, but if you can afford the deductible with a “disaster fund” or something similar that you have saved to pay closer to $1,000 dollars, you will definitely save on your premiums. Check if your insurer provides different deductibles for different types of damage(like hailstorms or earthquake deductibles) to see if this method of lowering your policy premiums is right for you.
